Umlauts.

thetart:

I’ve started a dozen different posts on this Flyover Feminism announcement, and they never move in the direction they should go. So instead of repeating the same stuff about the people who ARE involved, let’s try it this way:

Bitch Media just gave major exposure to a new feminist space which excludes non-white feminists, trans feminists, poor feminists, feminists outside the 2 urban areas (Austin and Chicago) inadequately represented by their current staff, and countless other marginalized groups. That’s right, excludes- because when you go live on an outlet like Bitch Media, I get to assume you’re fully stocked and open for business. Well I showed up on opening day, and I saw 3 white people who have had plenty of opportunity to write across various existing white feminist blogs.

I don’t want to hear them justifying their right to talk over whomever they please again. I want to talk about all of the brilliant women of color who were purposefully excluded when the 3 people involved in this didn’t even ask enough POC feminists to participate to find just one. Fine, so you acted like such jerks to people of color online that you were embarrassed to ask. Both Texas and Chicago are white minority areas, you couldn’t find some person on the motherfucking street? Find any black woman at the supermarket, because she will know more about being a black woman than you. This is not a difficult task, in fact it’s one that ought to happen organically if you’re a halfway decent human being.

The only conclusion is you looked at all of the people of color saying important, transformative things in various feminist spaces and made the conscious decision to exclude each and every one. So you need to answer for

each

and

every

one.
